With popcorn bucket; it is not blitzed away into the horizon when you simply throw the cup in your bin. A single-use cup may take hundreds of years to decompose and go away! A long time and these cups are really damaging our earth, the environment. They appear small and harmless but they can play a huge role in mother nature.
The reason we prefer to use those popcorn container is how convenient they are. We are able to just take a glass in hand, make use of it, throw out and about even without contemplating on the subject. They do not require washing this way or getting carried like normal cups. This sheer ease of access caters to our lifestyle especially when we are out or holding a party. But this ease has dire consequences for our planet. But each time you use a disposable cup, you further contribute to a plastic pollution crisis on our planet. Choice matters, so we must be aware of how our choices impact it.
Disposable cups are used and discarded by the millions every day. This is a huge number! These cups are mostly plastics which is the element which not decompose easily into nature. But these cups do not go away, they find their way to landfill (places we put garbage) or worse the ocean. Cups can get into the ocean which causes marine and other wildlife to suffer. In fact, experts predict that there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050! Well that is a scary thought and as it turns out — pretty much illustrates how grave the reality of the situation really is.
Disposable cups are not as small and harmless as they look, they demand an increase of resources genocidally. Firstly, they are made of trees requiring cutting down actual trees to produce paper. So we are cutting trees out which give us oxygen and home to many animals. Not only that but the paper has to be treated with chemical and then molded into cups after that trees are being cut down. These are extremely intensive and resource-consuming steps. So this process actually increases the wastefulness of these disposable cups, and it's just bad for our planet.
That requires us to ask ourselves, what steps we can take to minimize how many disposable cups we use? The solution is much simpler than that: we can switch to reusable cups instead! One of the upsides to switching to a reusable cup is that you can enjoy your beverages without adding to the plastic pollution problem. Switching to a reusable cup is not only planet positive, but it actually saves you the money and resources in the long run. Which is really good for Planet Earth and you can wash your reusable cup use it over and over.
